DOLKAR LHAMO

Since her early childhood in Tibet Dolkar Lhamo has had a reputation for having a very strong and beautiful voice. Having attended a village school near Chamdo in East Tibet she went on to attend Derge Medical College for five years where in addition to Tibetan medicine she also studied language and traditional Tibetan poetry. Later in Nepal she began to learn English language, while helping in the ROKPA clinic in Kathmandu.

Since 2001 she has been resident in Scotland increasing her knowledge and skills of expression in the English language and studying IT at Dumfries and Galloway College. . During this time she has also been teaching Tibetan grammar, reading, writing and conversation to students of different levels of ability at Samye Ling Monastery in Eskdalemuir, where she also helps in any other way she can.

Dolkar Lhamo enjoys writing poetry and songs. Her deep appreciation and knowledge of Tibetan culture has inspired her to do everything she can to preserve her heritage and to bring it in its original authentic freshness to western audiences.

Due to her perseverance and enthusiasm she has been able to form a new group of Tibetan performers called "Noyang Shyichi Gatsal Lodro Tsokpa ".

Their performance at Rheged for "Buddhist Himalaya" will be a unique event.

Performances at Rheged on August 18th 19th and 20th at 4.30 pm - 6.00pm in the Lecture Theatre. Tickets available from Rheged Box office 01768 868000
